Self Portrait Critique

My piece was said to be simple and obvious in terms of interpretation because the textures of the rocks and the dryer sheets were so opposite from each other.  It made it stupidly obvious that my words were soft and hard which is funny because my original ideas barely hinted at soft and hard in my opinion.  I liked the way the black turned out for the rocks and how it contrasted against the white of the dryer sheets which I think made my words even more obvious.  I was told that the composition should have been bigger not because bigger is better but because it would augment the piece more in the sense that the viewers would pay more attention to the composition, they would have more to look at, and it would look more presentable.  I agree that it should be bigger and it was originally a little bigger but I'll just need to paint some more fossils looking rocks black and maybe the viewers will notice that the majority of the rocks I used had fossils on them and that I wasn't just picking up random rocks.  It would have also helped if I had  a better place to display the piece, but because all the tables and stuff were gone I just left it in my spot.  The group did however like the way I stacked the rocks because it has a nice shape to it.  I  redid the order of the rocks so many times because people kept knocking the rocks over, but I am glad that it turned out alright and that I didn't glue the rocks together because now I can rearrange the rocks in a different way every  time I display the composition.  I think it might have worked a little better if I kept it that size but did more than one place setting and installed them somehow into/onto a wall so it would bring more of an interest for the viewers and they would be linked by color but unique in formation.
