Inflatable

The Environment Inflatable
Week one
  • Our inflatable was to be kind of the rave type thing in which we let people come inside and dance to some techno music with glow sticks.  I don't know much about this subject but it sounded like a fun and more attractive way for people my age to hangout as opposed to nightclubs and Shennanigans. The inflatable is supposed to have a dome/warehouse shape to it and be about 20'X25' so it's a biggie.
  • We decided it would be easiest to iron the plastic together and then use the scraps to patch holes that we might have after ironing.  So far it's working pretty well, although Myla and I are a bit tired of ironing, and there's been a few small holes that you can't even put your finger through.
Week two and three-ish
  • I think we finally got all the ironing done and it's ready to be tested for inflation :)
  •  It works well with Dana's fan and the piping stuff on the lining of the inflatable while indoors, but when we tried it outside, it started to fly away with Cara inside.  Thankfully nobody was hurt and we've have decided to use sandbags to hold the inflatable down.  If everything goes well the bags won't harm the structure of the inflatable.  Since we were outside we started spray-painting the inside and outside of the "Environment"  I tagged the side of the entrance while Lauren and Cara went crazy inside.
  • We tried adding a second fan to make sure it was cool inside, but it was too much power inside so we agreed on the one fan.  Spray-painting the interior continued as Ryan and Dana brainstormed how we could get his sound system down to work for the inflatable.  We then tested where we could put some black lights inside so that the spray-paint inside would glow.  It was then that we realized that the residue of the spray-paint was all over us and that we would need to clean the inflatable before the big day.
  • So we used mops and brooms to clean the inflatable and you can definitely see far less footprints and spray-paint residue.  The only problem is that the spray-paint on the front is starting to peel and it's not big enough for people to see from a distance.
 Inflatable Happenings, Man
  • We decided not to redo the exterior spray-paint because it might become a stressor and Ryan got his sister to bring his sound system.  We almost freaked out because we though he forgot a very important cord but it was a false alarm.  It was a bit unfortunate though as we started playing the music someone came a said we could not play the music any higher and it just happened to be very hot outside.  Despite this many people wanted to come inside.  At first they did not know what to do, but then they loosened up and started play fighting and dancing with the glow sticks.  We had a lot of interesting characters stop by such as the Free-Runners Hardcore, the Dean of Students, art faculty members, some high schoolers, fellow WASHers, and the laundry attendants.  After a while people just stood in front of the inflatable and hung out because it started getting hotter and hotter as people entered.  So I brought my fan to help the hot air circulate out through the vents.  Ryan said it helped but I think it was still a kind of hot inside but before we knew it the three hours were up.
  • Overall it was a fun experience and Myla and Dana took quite a few pictures inside and we had a satisfying celebration at Cinnabon  XD
